Syiah Kuala University, is a manifestation of the will of the people of Aceh to have a state higher education institutions, as it never existed and developed in the past.
In the reign of Sultan Iskandar Muda, the Kingdom of Aceh has become the center of the famous science development. The students and faculty come from various corners of the world, such as the Sultanate of Turkey, Iran, and India. Kuala Shia, whose name ditabalkan at public universities in the Porch of Mecca, is a leading scholar named Tengku Nusantara Abdur Rauf Singkili As in the XVI century, famous both in the field of science or religious law.
In 1957, the beginning of Aceh province was formed, the leaders of local government in Aceh, among others, by Governor Ali Hasjmy, Lieutenant Colonel H. Lord of War Syamaun Ghaharu and Major T. Hamza Treasurer and supported the authorities, scholars, clerics, and other politicians have agreed to lay a foundation for educational development of Aceh.
April 21, 1958, Aceh's Welfare Fund Foundation (YDKA) was formed with the goal of development held in order to realize the spiritual and material prosperity and happiness for the community. YDKA initially chaired by Regent M. Husen, Chief of the General Government at the Office of the Governor at the time, which was then headed by Governor Ali Hasjmy. YDKA develop programs include:
a. Established village students in provincial capitals and every district town in the territory of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam.
b. Pursuing the establishment of a University for the region of Aceh.
In harmony with these ideas, dated June 29, 1958, Lord of War Special Territory of Aceh established planners and AUTHOR CITY COMMISSION STUDENT / STUDENTS. The Commission is seen as siblings this YDKA commission has a duty as a creator, thinker body, and the inspiration for YDKA, so the commission is viewed as a major capital construction of township students.
The Commission is chaired by Governor Ali creator Hasjmy and Lt. Col. T. Hamzah as vice chairman. The first results of his work is to create a Darussalam for student city, and for the University of Syiah Kuala established.
So many efforts made by the joint commission YDKA Creator to realize development and Syiah Kuala University Darussalam.

Determination of the government and people of Aceh to rebuild the education world, has been firmly entrenched in the chest, so a year later, on August 17, 1958 groundbreaking ceremony was held the first student city (KOPELMA) by the Ministry of Religious Darussalam KH Mohd. Ilyas on behalf of central government, a week later followed by the laying of the first stone building in Darussalam made by the Minister Prof MDD. Dr. Priyono.
A year later, the desire and aspirations of the Acehnese to have a college has become a reality. Student City Student Darussalam President Sukarno was officially opened on September 2, 1959, accompanied by opening of the envelope Tugu Darussalam and the official opening of the first faculty Syiah Kuala University, Faculty of Economics. September 2, was subsequently designated as the Regional Education Day in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam, which is celebrated every year by the people of Aceh, the day that contains the meaning of the revival of education in this area.
At the opening and inauguration Kopelma Darussalam, President Soekarno declared that as an educational center Darussalam Aceh is a symbol of a peaceful climate and atmosphere of unity, the result of cooperation between the people and leaders of Aceh, as well as capital development and progress of the Aceh region in particular and Indonesia in general.
History has proven that determination has to realize the ideals become a reality, and this fact has been immortalized in a sketch on Tugu Darussalam through the handwriting of a state leader.
From then on, all components of the Acehnese joined devote thought and energy and working hand in hand in building that foundation Darussalam Syiah Kuala University. Police, soldiers, employees, schoolchildren, people around the township Darussalam, participating fully mutual co-founded and sincerity to donate labor for the construction of Darussalam, which is seen as the "Heart of Hearts of the Acehnese."
Unsyiah embryo that starts from the Faculty of Economics, followed by the formation of the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in 1960. Unsyiah, as a new university was officially declared on June 21, 1961 through Ministerial Decree No. PTIP. 11 Year 1961 and Presidential Decree No. pengesahaannya through. 161 dated April 24, 1962. Simultaneously with the opening of SK Unsyiah, it also opened the Faculty of Education and Pedagogy, and the Faculty of Law and Public Knowledge.
Unsyiah development continued with the establishment of Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Mathematics and Science. In addition to 8 pieces of Faculty with the Tier 1 level, up to now has had a program Unsyiah profession for physicians and veterinarians, a diploma program 3 (D-III) Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Natural Sciences, a diploma program 2 (D-II PGSD) Faculty of Education and Pedagogy, S1 Extension Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Agriculture, as well as S1 FKIP parallel class.
In addition, Syiah Kuala also opened graduate programs (PPs) Master in Economics and Development Studies (IESP), Master in Management (MM), Conservation of Land Resources (KSDL), Management Education (MP), and Master of Engineering (MT ). In the 1998/1999 academic year, Syiah Kuala University has received a new student for a PhD (S3) in the field of economics.
Since its founding, Unsyiah consecutive led by Colonel M. Jasin called Pj. President, Drs. Marsuki Nyak Man with the title chairman of the Presidium, Drs. A. Madjid Ibrahim as the Rector, Prof. onwards. Dr. Ibrahim Hasan, MBA., Prod. Dr. Abdullah Ali, M.Sc., Dr. M. Basyah Ali Amin, MA., Prof.. Dr. Dayan Dawood, MA., Prof.. Dr. A.
